appearance:
Despite being an extremely old woman, an ancient woman if you want to get technical, Azayaka has thankfully managed to evade the harsh realities of time that are forced upon humans as they grow older with every passing year. Granted, this would be due to the fact that she isn't a human at all, so those silly laws of time do not really pertain to her whatsoever. Because of a souls aging process, she has managed to stay looking young for many centuries now. Hell, if women in the material world knew that they would essentially be given eternal youth, at least for a couple hundred years, it would be sure fire that the number of female souls entering Soul Society would quadruple, at least! It would be pure pandemonium.
Just creeping over the teens of her four hundreds, the Shinigami doesn't look a day over eighteen. In fact, she may even look younger than most of the eighteen year olds in the material world, though she isn't quite so vain to travel to the human world just to test this theory out. Standing at about average height for an eighteen year old female, by human world standards anyway, Azayaka cannot really be called short, though she does stand shorter than many of the men within the Seireitei. Not one to take such a thing lightly, believing she should be taller to anyone whom she is of a higher rank than, the Soul Reaper often wears elevated boots to give her an extra edge. Granted, for some of the more monstrous men, and the occasional woman, of Soul Society, even platform boots aren't enough to boost her up.
Thanks to her, er, healthy eating habits, which includes eating several large meals a day, Azayaka has filled out rather well over the years. She believes that, for one to be healthy and to keep their spiritual energy reserves high, it is important to eat breakfast, brunch, lunch, several snacks, dinner, and then one more late night meal. Most of her Divisions budget does in to making sure there is enough food for everyone to enjoy these same number of meals; if one does not get to eat, no one, save for Yoakashi, gets to eat! Despite her overindulgence, however, frequent training sessions with members of her Division has kept her fit! Most importantly, however, these sessions have not caused her to lose what little of a chest she has. Time may have been good to her, but her body has not been so kind.
The men, and even the women, of Soul Society don't seem to mind too much, however. While she may not have the largest breasts in the Seireitei, it hasn't stopped the constant flow of love notes, flowers, and chocolates that she is constantly finding in her room. And since it sure as hell isn't her personality that wins her these many signs of devotion, but you'll learn about that later on, it must be something else, right? Maybe it is her long, flowing blonde hair? Reaching down to about her chest, the Shinigami often wears it in two distinct ponytails. One may occasionally walk in on her with her hair completely down, but that would generally only be when she is either in the bathhouse or she is sleeping; and if she catches you either time, you're sure to die.
Maybe it isn't her hair, though. It could be her eyes, which are so child-like and bright that it almost seems odd they have been set upon her rarely smiling face. Each one a deep shade of blue, it is easy to see why one may truly get lost in them, before realizing that the playful look the poor sap thought they were giving was actually a glare of pure disgust. Don't worry though, eventually you'll learn not to trust those eyes at all. After enough times, and several beatings, you'll grow accustomed to her apathetic expressions and rarely smiling face. Unless you're actually in her Division, however, in which case you may wonder what everyone is talking about, since your Captain never seems to stop smiling. But again, more on that later!
Due to her job as a Soul Reaper, and even more so as a Captain, Azayaka's wardrobe is quite limited in what she can choose to wear on any given day. Generally, she must conform to the static outfit of any Shinigami within the Seireitei, which consists of a white shitagi, a black kosode and hakama, and a white hakama-himo. This standard uniform is known as the Shihakushō, or the garments of the dead souls. As a Captain, Yoakashi also wears a white haori over top her usual outfit. When traveling to the material world, she attempts to stay as fashionable as she can, while also attempting to adhere to her love of animal-themed attire.

zanpakutō:
name:Reifujin Kuchinashi (Lady Gardenia)
appearance:
Really, what is there to say about any sealed soul cutter? In essence, these unreleased weapons are all exactly the same, sharing the same general outline and other common traits with every other Zanpakuto within Soul Society. Within the confines of the Seireitei, even if you are of a different rank, your Soul Cutter is bound to resemble the sword of your superior, your equal, and even your subordinates, with some minor differences, of course. Because, hey, if every single sealed Zanpakuto looked the same, well, it would be a pain in the ass trying to find which one was yours, eh?
Azayaka is no exception to this rule. In its sealed state, her Soul Cutter is like most others: incredibly plain and very common among Shinigami. The blade of her Soul Cutter is of average height for a katana, though it is noticeably thinner than most others; sure, it isn't to an extreme, but if you were to compare, it'd be obvious. But who really compares Zanpakuto these days, hm? Anyway, the hilt of the blade is wrapped in a mix of rose red and dark green tape, which are overlapped and crisscrossed to make the usual wrapping pattern of a Soul Society Zanpakuto. The guard of the sword takes the shape of a blooming rose, the blade extending out from the center of the flower.
Azayaka is always carrying around her Zanpakuto with her, due to her fear of forgetting it or losing it completely. Generally, she carries the sword in its sheath, which is an earthy, dark brown color, attaching it to a belt around her waist. Because she is more proficient with her left hand, though she is able to use her right hand well, she always has her sheath on her right side. That way it is easier for her to draw her sword when the situation demands it.
--- shikai
release phrase: Futaba! (Sprout!)
appearance:
After releasing Reifujin Kuchinashi, the sword makes a dramatic shift, though how extreme the change really should be determined by whomever is to witness it. Granted, Azayaka likes to make sure that her opponents are dead before leaving the battlefield, so she has yet to get that honestly stable opinion. So, as for her own opinion, yeah, the change is pretty extreme.
After uttering the initial release phrase 'Futaba! (Sprout!),' the guard, hilt, and pommel all completely disappear, and are replaced by a thick, long metallic chain. Along each coil of the chain are many protruding spikes, which resemble thorns. These thorns can also elongate in size, but recoil into the links when in contact with Captain Yoakashi, making it so that she will never be impaled by her own weapon's thorns. The blade from Lady Gardenia's sealed state does not disappear completely, but instead shrinks to the approximate length of a tanto knife. On the other end of the chain is a semi-large, heavy, brown weight. Thankfully, she doesn't feel the full tonnage of the weight, as it is her soul energy flowing through the weapon.
In total, the chain is roughly eight feet in length; it is usually coiled around Azayaka's body when not in use. However, the size is simply for appearance purposes; it has the ability to grow near indefinitely. Yoakashi has yet to test exactly how far the chain can extend. Having trained for years with the weapon, Azayaka can throw either end of the Zanpakuto with extreme strength and accuracy. It does not lose any of its momentum when extending, either, giving her added power to long distance enemies. If the need arises, she can alter the course that the chain is moving with her reiatsu; however, the longer the chain is extending, the more energy it takes to move.
abilities:
Reifujin Kuchinashi, at first sight, seems to be nothing more than a basic, long-range weapon. While the chain has no definite length, due to its growing skill, it is rather simple to dodge after learning the general movements. However, Azayaka likes it when the enemy begins to predict her movements, as that leaves them open to the special ability that Lady Gardenia holds within her. Even better, as there are two ends to the chain-like weapon, the blade and the weighted tail, there are, likewise, two abilities associated with each, giving the Zanpakuto a total of four abilities. Although this is the case, the same verbal commands are used with each.
Maku (Sow!) is the first ability, and has the same effect on both the blade end and the weighted end of Lady Gardenia. By hurling either of the ends towards the ground and uttering this command, Azayaka gives the weapon the ability to bury underneath the ground, no matter what kind of surface it is, so long as it is solid. Water would only work if there is an earthy surface under it.
Hayasu! (Grow!) is the second ability, and is where the two ends differ in their effect. We'll start with the blade end. After it has gone underground, using this command will call the blade, attached to the barbed chain, of course, to shoot up towards the intended target with incredible speed. It isn't unavoidable, but if the enemy isn't expecting it, it'll probably be a close call. After hitting, or missing, the target, the blade will retract back along the path that it traveled from and once again coil around her holder.
Using the ability with the weighted end, as stated already, produces a different effect. After uttering Hayasu! (Grow!), ten barbed chains, all with a smaller blade at the tip, will shoot up and either attack one target or many. They still shoot up rather quickly, and now at several different angles. Again, dodging isn't impossible, but it is a lot less likely if they're all aimed at one target.
--- bankai
name:
appearance:
To unleash her Bankai, Azayaka must first have the weighted end of the released Lady Gardenia planted into the ground. After calling 'Bankai! (Final Release!), hundreds upon hundreds of pillars will shoot straight up into the air and cover a mile-wide radius around wherever the weight is implanted into the ground. They extended upwards for about fifty feet as well, but what makes them different than the initial release chains is that these cannot bend or be focused onto one target. There is about a foot of space in between each pillar. It somewhat resembles a bamboo forest...but, you know, with more metal and death. Captain Yoakashi is able to travel through the field with ease, as the chains will shoot down into the ground if she steps anywhere within the field. After moving over them, they shoot right back up, making it difficult for her to be followed. This field of barbed pyres also gives her different places to hide below and enemy; this gives her cover to throw the bladed side of her weapon up towards a target.

"Why do you bother to fight? You know you're just going to lose, right?"
personality:
Let's start with this: Azayaka is very much a feminists. Also a lesbian, she only allows women to become members of the Sixth Division; they hold all seat positions, as well as handle the important affairs of the squadron. If a man does somehow manage to slip through the selection process, which does occasionally happen, they are given only the jobs of trash; they are to do all of the cooking, all of the cleaning, and any other task a woman asks them to do during the day. Any job that a Sixth Division woman does not want, a man will surely get. Her pro-women attitude has also obtained her the position of President in the Shinigami's Women Association, though her occasionally radical ideas earn some sideways glances from other members.
She seems to hate most men with a vigor, and even holds this prejudice in the Captain's Meetings, which sometimes gets her in to trouble. Now, keep in mind that she doesn't think men need to be eliminated, oh no, that'd be silly. If all of the men were gone, who would cook dinner or do laundry, eh? Still, men are warned to stay away from her, or to keep any interaction brief, lest they want to lost their lives. It is this attitude that has men, and even women outside of her Division, seeing Azayaka as a cold woman with radical ideas. Still, none of them dare to speak to her outright because, well, that would be suicide.
To women within the Sixth Division, however, Captain Yoakashi seems to be one of the kindest, most gentle people in all of Soul Society. She is always smiling, laughing, and even more so flirting with the various members of her Division. Still, she knows her limits, and will always cease her playing if someone feels uncomfortable, unless she is drunk, but she is often forgiven if that is the case. If she hears of any sort of bullying going on within her Division or from an outside squad, she is the first person to address, and in most cases, fix the problem the very first time. The members of the Sixth Squad will admit she's scary when she wants to be, but is generally as docile as a kitten.
Still, to others, Yoakashi Azayaka is a statue; a uncaring creature who doesn't mind demeaning those around her if she feels the need to. It's true, she rarely cares about people's feelings, unless they are within her Division or a woman. In fact, unless you fall into one of those two categories, it is doubtful that she will speak with you whatsoever, unless she is giving you a direct order. Other Captains, and occasionally Lieutenants, get a pass with that rule.
People say she doesn't feel because her facial expression seems to rarely change, shifting only from uncaring to bored. She rarely ever smiles, and when she does it is usually so smug that it's cruel, like she isn't even really smiling, just mocking you. Some call her entirely apathetic, caring only about completing an assignment and not at all about those around her; some even call her a monster. This is what confuses the members of her Division, as they essentially only see her smiling unless something is truly troubling her.
Keep this in mind, however; no one truly has the right to call her a monster until they have seen her in battle. That is the only time she can truly be called a monster. She is extremely levelheaded and prides herself on being able to maintain her composure in any situation, which makes her dangerous on the battlefield. To her, being unable to remain calm, cool, and collected gives the enemy false hope, which can give them that added boost of energy to actually fight back. Azayaka is also a quick thinker who can come up with a strategy and several alternates for a situation in relatively no time at all and can even assess an enemy and play into their weaknesses with no qualms.
While her levelheadedness may be hard to break, however, it is possible to do. And when something does manage to penetrate her wall of self-control, she completely snaps. And that is not pretty, oh no. Her only mission is to erase whoever broke her composure from existence; anywhere close to her is a dangerous place for her allies to be if they value their lives.

history:
Born in the very early 1900's, Yoakashi Azayaka lived in the very end of the Meiji Period, a time when Japan was beginning to modernize and become a major super power of the world. Keep in mind that Yoakashi Azayaka was not her given name back then, and she has long forgotten her original name; she will be referred to by her name of rebirth for the entirety of this history lesson. Now with that out of the way, let's continue on through the end of the Meiji Period.
Her parents' relationship prior to her birth were rocky. Hiryou Geki was a man who worked on constructing steamships for the Japanese imperial army, while Nakanomi Saseko was a former prostitute whom Geki had "saved" from continuing to live the life of a whore. Unfortunately, life wasn't much better with that man, who continued to treat the woman as if she still worked in the brothel. He demanded sexual favors every night, even if she complained about not feeling well; during the day, she was forced to make sure the house was clean by the time he got home. If just one thing seemed amiss, he would be sure to take it out on her later.
So, as you can imagine, these two were not in love. Well, not both of them. Strangely enough, Geki considered what he was doing an act of love, and that the discipline he exacted was simply making their relationship stronger; that's why he never left her, even after she got pregnant. How many other men would have stayed to be seen as the father of a whore's child? Meanwhile, Saseko wished everyday that the man would just leave, as he was making life far too difficult for her. He was a vicious man, a despicable man, and she didn't want to raise a child with him; if it was a boy, he may turn out life his father, if it was to be a girl, she may fear men.
But Saseko knew she could not leave. If she were to try and run, it was certain that both she and the baby would perish; with no family or friends to turn to, the two would be on their own. Her only choice was to stay with Geki. Luckily for her, when she started to show signs of carrying a baby, the man who saved her began to ease up on his constant demands of her. In fact, he mostly just allowed to her make sure that the child would turn out healthy, as there was no way he wanted to lose a child during birth. Strange how he didn't say anything about losing Saseko, though...
Still, on May 18th, 1901, their child was born with no complications, and Saseko, too, also lived through the process. Geki was pleased, though just a bit disappointed that he was not given a son. Saseko was just happy to have a child, no sadness attached. Still, both pledged to love the child with all of their heart, so that she could grow up to live a happy, healthy life in the ever-strengthening Japan. Everything seemed to be going perfectly; that is, until Geki began having to put in overtime working on the steamships. The emperor of Japan foresaw war with the mainlands in the country's future, and had demanded that all forces double their efforts to help protect the country.
While this overtime managed to bring the family more financial security, it also began to tear the already loosening threads that had somehow managed to hold them together for this long. With the stress from the ships' construction, Geki came home everyday more tired than the day before. His fatigue bred irritation, especially with a child who could never stop crying. When he would return home, sometimes late at night, sometimes early in the morning, those screams would keep him from resting; occasionally, he would shout at the child, but that only kept her silent for but a moment.
Saseko did her best to keep the peace, but found Geki's anger too much to deal with; secretly, when the breadwinner was out at work, she would return to the brothel in attempts to seduce a man that would take care of her and Azayaka. She would narrowly make it home before Geki, who was, luckily, always too tired to question her. Hell, she wondered if, in such an overworked state, he even suspected that anything was going on. Eventually, he had turned to alcohol to help him rest, which only helped to give Saseko more confidence that she would not be caught in her misdeeds. With a new faith, she continued her secret engagements with various men.
One day, however, the woman was caught. Her time with a client had gone over what they had paid for, but she was not strong enough to push him off of her. After managing to get herself free, she ran back towards her home, clothing tattered and hanging off of her. Lips were smeared with red lipstick, and she hair was ragged and loose. She had even lost one of her shoes on the run back home. When she entered the house, the lights were still off. Saseko, thinking she was safe, quickly went up to her room to clean herself off, and to make it seem as though she had been in bed all the night.
She did not expect to see Geki sitting on the bed, obviously drunk, with a broken bottle in his hand. Scared, she called out to him, asking when he had gotten home. He didn't reply, but simply moved the tip of the bottle through his fingers. Saseko asked him again, though this time she began to move towards the baby's room. She was still asleep, thank god, and had yet to begin crying. But the mother knew that if Azayaka would start to cry, Geki would lose it. Maybe if she could get to the baby, they could both escape with their lives. The man still did not reply, but this time he stood up, slowly moving towards the sleeping child's room as well.
Now it was a race to see who could get to the child first; both made their move, but the man was much stronger than Saseko and plowed his through, tossing the prostitute to the ground. The thud must have awoken the baby, as she instantly began to cry. The mother pleaded, "do not harm my baby! Do not harm my baby!" but Geki ignored her. He shouted back, "is this even my child!? It isn't, is it?!" and then grabbed Azayaka by her legs, hoisting her up into the air. Still, Saseko cried out to the man, begging for forgiveness. But then everything went silent; the baby had stopped crying. Tears began to stream down the woman's face, and her fears were confirmed when the child's father stepped out from the room with the baby's limp body in his hand.
The tears burned as they glazed her cheeks, her throat attempting to hold back the urge to vomit. She was sad and she was afraid, that was a given. But, at that moment, she was consumed with such a rage, a rage that only a mother could feel, that she completely blocked everything out. Screaming, she quickly got up, and moved to attack Geki. He was taken by such surprise that he dropped the child and the bottle, and was brought down to the floor. The woman clawed at him with her nails, punched him, spat on him, she did everything she could to cause him as much pain as possible. She had to fight to hold back the tears, to keep her vision clear, but she did not let up in her assault.
Geki soon collected himself, and realized his own strength, and began to fight back. Shoving the woman off of him and back into their bedroom, he quickly got on top, and grasped his hands around her neck. Even tightening his grip, he could feel the life slip out of her; slowly, her eyes began to roll back and her breathing became labored. After a few minutes, she was gone. Geki, despite knowing what he had done, just looked at her lifeless body, and screamed. Then, after seemingly realizing the severity of what he had done, he fled the house, and never looked back.
Saseko had seen it happen. As soon as her soul left her body, she found herself chained next to it, and had watched her one-time savior flee the scene. She was in shock; not only by what had happened, but to see that there was an afterlife such as this. It was surreal, to look at her own corpse was surreal. But she was quickly brought out of her shock by the sounds of a screaming child; her child, the reason she had died. She had died to avenge her child, that child was the most important thing to her. These were the only thoughts that ran through her mind, a broad smile on her face. Life, or whatever this was called, would be better now for sure, because she would be able to remain with her child for all eternity.
Calling out to her child, in attempts to soothe her, Saseko stood to move into the next room to be with Azayaka. She was within her sights, just a few feet beyond the door, there was nothing to stop the mother from reaching the baby. Except...except for that chain. As she attempted to make her way through the doorway, Saseko realized that the chain had extended as far as it could. No matter how much she pulled, it wouldn't budge. Bewildered and irrational, consumed with anger with tears pouring from her eyes, she attempted to force her way into the room; nothing would stop her from reaching her child. Nothing! Nothing!
For days, for weeks, Saseko attempted to get into the room. She clawed at the floor; she attempted to have the baby, who was still far too young, to crawl over towards her; she tugged at the chain itself, attempting to pull it from the point that it was attached. All ended in failure. As time went on, the woman began to pull at her own hair, to claw at her own body. She just wanted her baby, what had she done to deserve this? Her baby was the only thing that she could think about; the child who was so close, yet unreachable. Without her even realizing it, she was becoming demented; her chain had been corroding for days, and she had yet to notice.
After a few more days, the chain was at its last link, but Saseko had become so consumed with being unable to get to her child that she had not even realized she could move now. Just an hour later, her Chain of Fate was completely gone, and a hole formed in her chest. To her, it felt as if her mind had just shut down, and a sweeping pain took over her entire being. She began to shift, to mutate into a large, monstrous creature that donned a mask. When the pain had fled her soul, her mind began to function again, though to say that it functioned was actually a gross overstatement. The only thing she could think about was being closer to her daughter...by devouring her soul! She was no longer the mother of Azayaka, Saseko had become a Hollow.
With full ability, the creature moved to attacked the screaming baby's soul, hoping that it would help to fill the void in her chest, the place where she felt the most empty. Mouth gaping, her head dived down to consume the child. But then she recoiled back, a sharp pain shooting through her legs. Turning her head, Saseko saw only a thin, kimono-clad man standing behind her, a katana in his hand. She hissed, and completely turned herself around to face this stranger; this fool who dared to interrupt her meal. Smiling, the Hollow decided right then and there that she would eat this idiot first, then the baby as the main course. Without another hesitation, she launched her massive body at the tiny man, claws raised to pin him to the floor. But without her even noticing, the man had maneuvered himself behind the monster, the baby now in his arms. Not even looking at the Hollow, he tapped Azayaka with the end of his sword, and in an instant, she disappeared.
With her main course gone, and knowing that she stood no chance against this man in her current state, Saseko fled the scene, melting into a pool of ink-like liquid. The man, with a look of disappointment on his face, pulled out a small, cellular device from the pocket of his uniform, and gently flipped it open. "Yeah, yeah, this is Yoakashi. Did she arrive safely? Good, good. Alright. Hey! Don't let her be sent off anywhere, alright? Later." Clicking the phone shut, the Shinigami known as Yoakashi took a look around the empty room, shook his head, and then vanished; he had a certain soul he needed to meet up with before he lost her forever.
Upon arriving in Soul Society, the man went straight for the registration area of the Rukongai, the place where the child was hopefully still being held. The Shinigami, whose real name was Yoakashi Keitaro, had been looking to find a child that he could adopt, as both he and his wife had always desired to take care of a child. Not being a noble caused problems, however, as most of the children who lived in the safer, more structured areas of the Rukongai had already been adopted. Those that lived in the lawless areas were all too scary for Keitaro to adopt; despite his status as a Soul Reaper, he was a very timid individual. So he found it nothing short of a miracle when that little girl had popped up on the radar. Thankfully, he was friends with many of those within the Twelfth Division, who helped get him assigned to send her specifically.
After showing the man in charge of the registration booth the proper identification, and the proper certificates for a soul adoption, Keitaro made his way into the Seireitei to bring his wife their new child. When the pair had arrived, Kushina, the wife, was speechless. She had honestly never thought that she would actually get to hold a real, well a soul, child ever again; since it was impossible for souls to breed, of course. Together, they decided to name the baby Azayaka, and vowed to protect her no matter what the cost was. Of course, they also had no idea how much trouble a baby could actually be. They were certainly in for a treat, huh?
Not too much happened, however, over the course of on hundred years. Nothing important, at least. Sure, Azayaka had grown up a bit, now looking to be about the age of a middle schooler, but generally, things were rather peaceful. That is, until her surrogate father, Keitaro, was killed on a mission in the material world. Slain by a Hollow, he was mourned for months. Eventually, however, Kushina met another man. But it was this man who brought the young girl to hate men with the passion that she does today.
Junkyu Ashijin was his name, and he treated both Kushina and Azayaka like crap. A man from the Eleventh Division, he was almost always drunk, and was always looking for sex. When he couldn't get it, he would beat Kushina, often in a drunken rage. Well, one day Azayaka decided that she had had enough, and took action. After again refusing to have sex with him, Kushina attempted to flee, but he was too strong for her. He threw himself on top of her, and began to undress. The young girl had walked into the room at that precise moment, to ask her mother a question. Enraged that someone would dare do that to her mother, Azayaka flew at the man in a fury, but he hit her aside, sending her into a wall. Kushina took this time to call out to her Soul Cutter, then proceeded to cut the rapist's throat.
When she came to, Azayaka did not feel fear upon seeing the dead soul, but rather, she felt happy. However, the feeling lasted for just a moment, as the family's neighbors had heard a ruckus and called for the Sixth Division to come and check things out. For the murder of a seated individual, despite it being only the 12th seat, Yoakashi Kushina was placed under trial, and was subsequently sentenced to death. Aza attempted to have the sentence repealed, but it was an order by the Central 46 and had to be carried out. Besides, no one would listen to a little girl. Disgusted by the actions of the Central 46, who were, of course, mostly men, Yoakashi Azayaka decided to become a Shinigami, and vowed to one day become a Captain; then, maybe, men would listen to her when she spoke.
A few months later, she joined the Shinigami Academy. While there, like all of the other students, she learned the basics of becoming a Shinigami: fighting hollows, sendings, kido, hand-to-hand combat, and Zanpakuto combat. Excelling in every aspect, she was quickly passed to become a full-fledged Shinigami. She was sent off to join the Sixth Division, which was, ironically, the same Division that had arrested her mother just a few years prior. Though it left a bitter taste in her mouth, she did her best to serve under Captain Kuchiki and Lieutenant Abarai. That is, because, one day she planned on taking over the position of Captain. Until that day, however, she'd have to be patient.
A few more years passed, and not too much happened. Though she had never realized it before, the life of a Shinigami was dull. That is, until the Ryoka came to Soul Society. Four individuals from Earth had come to try and save Kuchiki Rukia from the death penalty; an act of both bravery and stupidity. Although she had been assigned to attempt and catch the criminals, Azayaka, who didn't agree with anything the Central 46 did, hid out in the human world for most of the events that took place. Color her intrigued, though, when she returned to hear that Sosuke Aizen, Kaname Tousen, and Ichimaru Gin had all revealed themselves to be traitors of Soul Society. It wasn't much of a shock, of course; men were inherently evil.
Still, the threat of an oncoming war was enough to drive Azayaka to train night and day in order to prepare herself. She quickly ascended through the ranks, easily taking the position of third seat. This couldn't have happened at a better time, either, as the war was finally starting! Essentially, she was Captain of the Sixth Division, as Abarai had went to Hueco Mundo against orders, and Captain Kuchiki had also ventured to the Hollow realm in order to save his sister. As such, it was her job as acting leader of the Sixth Division to move the troops into formation during the war. She was rather capable, as well, which intrigued some; if she had her Bankai, she could have even possibly been promoted to one of the open Captain positions.
Time went on, and the war was brought to a close. Many had lost their lives, specifically the higher ranking members of every Division. Having learned to use her Zanpakuto's final release over the course of the battle, Azayaka was made Captain of the Sixth Division. In this new position of power, she enacted many rules for the Division, the most important being that it was to be a woman's only squad; any man that made their way into the group were either expelled immediately or given remedial tasks to complete. Having finally achieved what she had set out years ago to do, Azayaka has, and continues to, hold on to her title as Captain of the Sixth Division.

role-play sample:
For the most part, the trip had been absolutely silent. Senkutsu Yuukyuu had been the only one sent on this trip, the only one who mattered anyway, so it wasn't as if there were others that would be able to keep her company or strike up casual conversation. At her request, however, she had been given a few men to travel with; not for company, of course, solely for their usefulness as laborers. Why, who else would carry her luggage? Certainly not Yuukyuu herself, that much was certain. Still, they had also been instructed to remain quiet throughout the course of the trip, lest they found it truly necessary to trouble her with their voices.
The world around her must not have gotten the request, however, as it was anything but silent. This dismal day had brought nothing but earthy racket; from the crash of booming thunder that sounded off every few minutes to the tapping of the rain on the roof of her carriage that never seemed to let up. Despite being late Winter, a time when one was expecting beautiful snow to cover the ground just one last time, the South had been experiencing severe thunderstorms for the last few days. The sky had been overtaken with shades of grey, the clouds above blocking out nearly any sign that a Sun still existed. Lightning was the only source of light that would occasionally brighten the overcast Earth below, though those bolts were far and few in between.
Still, the solitude gave The Rat time to think, to come up with a plan that would allow her to finish this task swiftly and then return home to Awai-shi; where they certainly were not experiencing this same weather. Unfortunately, it was difficult to think within the carriage; it was far more troublesome than it was on the train. At least on the large, world-connecting express the ride was smooth, even with all the noise created by the other passengers. Even alone here, the constant jerky movements of the horse-drawn buggy made everything bothersome. Hell, she had nearly covered herself with tea just an hour or so before when one of the wheels ran through a deep hole in the road.
"How much longer until we have reached Yama no Sato?" she cried out, making her first contact with the drivers.
"We should be there in but a few minutes, Madame Senkutsu." one of them replied back. The carriage also picked up in speed, from what Yuukyuu could tell, which pleased her greatly.
Oh, so soon? That was also a pleasant surprise. She didn't have much time left then, however. She needed a plan now. To go into something without so much an idea, well, that was suicide; you were destined to fail no matter what. Still, it wasn't as if this mission of hers was life or death. No, far from it. It was nothing but simple information gathering; testing a hunch that the Boss had about a certain resident of the Mountain Village: Uzumaki Naruto. From what Yuukyuu had gathered, all signs indicated that he was the container of the Kyuubi, the nine-tailed fox demon. If this was true, of course, it meant that he would have to die.
It wasn't as if they could just waltz into any village they pleased and murder an innocent, though. Well, they could, but that would make them as vile as the filth they sought to eliminate. No, they needed to check their facts again and again in order to make certain that their target was indeed one of the nine Jinchuriki. And if their suspicions were proved accurate, it wasn't like Yuukyuu wanted to bother attacking the nine-tails anyway; he was sure to be the most powerful, not someone she wanted to bother herself with at all.
"Madame Senkutsu, we're pulling up to the gates now. As expected, there are entry guards stationed here as well..."
A smug smile grew upon the blond's face. None of them had the proper identification to enter the village, especially such an important one as this where the Southern nobles resided. Hence, they would have to play some mind games with the guards, though even the most basic of illusions would no doubt be enough to gain them permission to pass through the gates. Once the carriage finally came to a complete halt, and the voices of the guards became clear, Yuukyuu began her casting.
"We'll need to see some identification."
"Ah, yes. Of course..."
Kokohi no Jutsu!
The drivers all pulled out their "passports" in unison, though, in reality, they were nothing more than blank sheets of paper. Still, as far as these boneheaded Imperial Guards were aware, they were all the identification those men needed in order to pass through into Yama no Sato.
"We'll also need to inspect your carriage."
The same would be true with Yuukyuu. As soon as the armor-clad men opened the door to the buggy, the blonde woman's hand was already extended towards them, passport in hand. She had not even bothered to look at them; her head was resting on her free arm as her eyes glared forwards, as if she was already looking into the village of the royals. In no more than a minute, the sound of the large gates opening became apparent, and the footsteps of the horse trudging its way into the village signaled a complete success.
Peering out of the window, the Rat of Akataiyou found the streets bare; there were few people willing to travel through the rain, it seemed. This would make her job somewhat more difficult; she had been planning on going the simple route and just asking the villagers what they knew about the Uzumaki boy. She would need to reassess the situation, but she was famished. There was no way she wanted to work on an empty stomach, and there was a certain place within the village that she remembered from many years ago as being an absolute delight: the Ichiriki Teahouse.
After a quick briefing with her men, the four of them went their separate ways; Yuukyuu, umbrella in tow, made her way to the teahouse. Of course, she asked the few villagers that she actually passed about the Uzumaki boy, but many remained tight-lipped. Apparently talking to strangers was frowned upon, especially when the subject matter was one of their own. It was unfortunate, but Yuukyuu enjoyed at least a little bit of a challenge. "Seat for one," she said calmly, closing her umbrella as she entered the establishment. She was quickly taken to a free seat, and her order was taken.
It took but a few moments, but her tea was served, and the waitress left the newcomer to her business. She sat with one leg crossed over the other, her face blank of emotion as she sipped on her tea. All she needed was one, just one person who would lead her to the boy. Who? She didn't know yet. But she was sure that they would come, she could taste it.
