YUMEKO MATSUOKA
----------- THE QUINCY -----------
"'CAUSE THESE THINGS WILL CHANGE; CAN YOU FEEL IT NOW?
THESE WALLS THAT THEY PUT UP TO HOLD US BACK WILL FALL DOWN."

NAME: matsuoka, yumeko.
*yumeko - dream child - is her first name. if she had been male, it would have been chiharu - one thousand springs, and momoko - peach child - would have been her name had she been born a month later, which was when she should have been born, when the peaches ripen. one day later, and she would have been haruko - spring child (similarly, two months earlier and she would have been yukiko). but, alas, she was born female in the late-winter/early-spring, and so 'yumeko' became the name she would spend the rest of her life with, being born at an equinox at dusk when the twilight had a sort of surreal dream-like quality to it. (and although she doesn't mind the name too much, she often - too often - finds herself wishing that she had been a boy and had been named chiharu.)
'yumeko' is not, however, a name with hundreds of variations to shorten to pet names, and so the only one common enough to note is 'yume-chan.' although, if it were up to her, everyone would address her as 'yumeko' without fail, because she thinks that 'yume-chan' sounds childish, and she would wish for anything but to seem like a child. but most see her as a child, and thus, 'yume-chan' it is.
'matsuoka,' her last name, has been in her family for nearly four centuries, and roughly translates to 'hill covered in pines.' the reason for this name is obvious: her family simply owned - and still does own - a dojo and estate on a hill covered with pine trees. yumeko lives there still with her family, the dojo still standing and still in use, and it is one of the things the matsuokas pride themselves in.
AGE: fourteen.
*being born on march 20th, the vernal equinox, yumeko is a pisces. pisces are known for being "compassionate, adaptable, emotional, imaginative, devoted, accepting, sensitive, perceptive, patient, gentle, good-natured, compassionate, intuitive, spiritual, idealistic and selfless." they can also, however, be oversensitive, indecisive, escapists, impressionable, naive, gullible, scatter-brained, and dreamers. she was a day away from being an aries, and some of her qualities are that of an aries, as well as a pisces.
symbolized by two fishes, the sign of pisces more than any other is a victim of its own choices - those who make the effort to swim upstream become the einsteins of the world, and those who choose to simply go with the flow end up in a life of flipping burgers or sleeping on park benches. yume plans to be one of the former, attempting to swim upstream at every opportunity - metaphorically, of course.
but, really, who truly believes in astrology anyway? even if it is accurate at times, yume's astrological sign is no comprehensive means of evaluating her.
GENDER: female.
*although she is female, and usually dresses like she is as well, if she is wearing particularly baggy sweats or something similar she can be mistaken for a young boy because of her short hair and small stature. often, though, she can be seen in dresses or skirts or a bow in her hair, so the thought rarely crosses anyone's mind at most times.
APPEARANCE:
*yumeko is terribly normal. or, at least she appears to be. she doesn't stand out in her appearance much; it would not be easy to spot her in a group of people, and it would be doubly hard to spot her in a large crowd.
the first thing one would notice about her would be her height, or her lack thereof. it's not that she's terribly short - like, primordial-short - but rather that she's petite. on her tippy-toes, she is barely under five feet flat, just a few millimeters, actually - but the difference is not worthy enough to note in her eyes. when asked her height, yumeko will reply five feet, the little white lie being uttered by her lips often enough for her to say it proudly, maybe even a bit arrogantly so that it would seem as if she was very defensive about the matter, as if she was daring whoever asks to challenge her about it. she has come to terms with the fact that, at fourteen years old, she has very little time to actually reach five feet before she stops growing forever, and she tries very hard to, however futilely. her height disables her from being able to see above the heads of most others, and forces her to go in the front whenever group pictures are taken. because of this, she hates it. still, she has a few years to get a growth spurt - it's not that she stopped growing at a certain age, it's just that she's always been small for her age - and she fervently wishes to be taller by at least a few inches.
despite her petite, seemingly fragile body, yumeko is surprisingly fit for someone of such a small frame. looking at her childlike face, her slim neck, her narrow shoulders tapering down into a flat chest and a slight waist beside even slighter arms and small hands, no one could possibly imagine the strength and agility she holds. years of kendo and archery have attributed to this, and she is stronger than most girls and even some weak boys. her speed is probably the leading cause of this, as she can dodge most attacks in kendo quickly and strike back with equal speed. barely reaching five feet at her tallest on her tippy-toes, yume is not the type of person anyone would consider imposing. she is thin, but not underweight at all for her height at about eighty pounds. but her limbs are skinny, despite her strength, and make her appear frail and weak. however, her bones do break easily, as she has learned through various experiences throughout her life. yet, when people see the small fragile-looking girl, they tend to think that she is underweight. even if she were average height, she would still appear to be so small and delicate looking that most would overlook her or just pass her off as a little kid.
she's neither heavily built, nor voluptuous and curvy. instead, she has a plain thin body, with a flat chest and only a slightly narrow waist, giving her the overall appearance of a young, prepubescent girl. it's not a body that would turn heads, and her height doesn't help that fact either. although, it may be due to the fact that she has not yet hit puberty and is still awaiting a growth spurt. she's not that heavy either, her weight fluctuating between a healthy eighty and ninety pounds. due to that, and her height, she's not exactly gaunt; her sparse curves somehow manage to be soft, other than her protruding collar bones and back bones. her frame is delicate-looking and petite, her arms thin and frail, her hands small with thin, short fingers. her small size gives her an advantage, however, by making her quick, agile, and light, although she's far too clumsy to let that speed last for more than a few moments before she ends up tripping over her own two feet.
yume's hair has changed only in length throughout her life so far. the color is hard to describe, as many factors affect how it appears to people. in a general sense, it is a very dark brown that usually appears black; in soft light, it's purplish hues come out, while in hard light, a reddish-brown color highlights the thick strands. wetness is also a factor in the color it appears to be; a generalization would be to say that the more saturated it is with water, the darker and shinier her hair appears. but then again, that's true with all hair, isn't it? yumeko's bangs are parted at the right and fall from her hairline into her eyes; usually, some section of them is pinned up with a cute bow or barrette or ribbon. the rest of her hair falls freely down, straight and thick and never cooperating enough to stay tied up when she tries to. until about a year ago, the thick strands had reached their peak and went down to her mid-back, but upon entering high school, yume felt that she needed to look older and more mature, and thus the scissors came out. (plus, the longer hair took too much effort to tie up every time she wanted to spar.) so, after angling three mirrors, one of them full-length, to allow herself to see the back of her head as she cut, the petite quincy snipped off the long strands. too late before she realized that the shorter hair made her look even more childish. the result was a head of uneven choppy layers, but it didn't look bad so she didn't feel the need to go to a parlor and get it fixed up. and, although she preferred how she looked a lot older with the longer hair, she will agree that the shorter strands are much easier to manage. (even if no one in kendo will take her seriously now.) now, in the back, her hair ends at the nape of her neck, while in the front it falls down a little passed her shoulders, the effect being that of an angled upside-down u.
yumeko's hair tops a round face reminiscent of childhood innocence and wonder. it is often because of this and her size that people mistake her for a child, despite her constant attempts to make herself seem older. her complexion is a clear, pale peach color, even throughout her face and body. in the winter, it can sometimes look almost translucent. she does not tan easily, but rather becomes afflicted with sunburn if faced with direct sunlight for too long. (somehow, though, this does not seem to deter her from staying outside for too long.) yume's facial features are small and rounded, fitting in with her overall childlike appearance. her forehead is larger than average, despite being constantly hidden under her bangs, and is situated above round-shaped eyebrows perched atop wide doe-like eyes. her cheekbones are wide, hidden beneath the soft flesh of her flushed cheeks, and positioned around a small button nosed, slightly perked up at the end. her lips are pale and thin, and when the corners of them are upturned into a smile - into a true smile - a dimple appears in each cheek, giving her the look of a small innocent child, carefree and full of wonder.
the small quincy's most prominent feature would have to be her eyes - not because they're particularly beautiful, but because they're so expressive. they're wide and round, and seem to draw people in. framed by long thick eyelashes, they are brilliant hues of purple, from shades of violet and lavender, to plum and amethyst, and sometimes almost black. they are a mix between an icy blue and violet; the brilliant shades vary from violet and lavender, to amethyst and sapphire, cerulean and pale ice. there could be no one name to assign to the various shades that change depending on her moods and the lighting. if one were to look closely, one wold find that, amidst the bright pools of purple and blue, paler speckles dot her arises. they change depending on her mood and lay out all her emotions for the world to see - her eyes are, truly, the windows to her soul. just by looking at them, one would know what she was thinking.
when it comes to clothing, yume chooses whatever she deems comfortable. at school, she wears the uniform with few alterations, often trying to make her skirt a bit longer and sometimes forgetting to tie the bow tie if she's in a rush or too tired to care. (this, however, often leads to embarrassment, and she usually tries to remember to tie the bow.) also, she doesn't care enough to tuck in the shirt, as the blazer or sweater usually cover it anyway.
outside of school, yumeko will usually just pick any random outfit and throw it on. often, she will wear jeans, basketball shorts, cargo pants, skirts, or dresses with hooded shirts or sweaters in the winter, and t-shirts or any other kind of shirt in the warmer months. she dresses modestly, preferring that her skirts and dresses don't rise above her knees, and mostly she wears pastel or bright colors - pinks and yellows and whites. boots or sandals or sneakers are fine shoes for her, and she prefers her clothes loose, since they allow more room to move and she is constantly moving around. she doesn't care about makeup like most girls her age do, and her hair is rarely tied up, instead adorned with a simple ribbon or bow to hold part of her bangs back. while practicing kendo or archery, she prefers to wear a navy or white hakama with a white keikogi, donning the appropriate armor and helmet for the former activity.
while working at her part-time job at the cafe, yume wears the appropriate coral-colored waitress uniform, throwing on an extra apron while baking.-----------------------------------------

TECHNIQUES:
*like most quincies, yumeko prefers a distance between herself and her opponent, allowing more room for error and more ease in evading. surprisingly, however, she is quite accurate when shooting arrows over a distance, and can pinpoint her aim precisely, this ability aided by years of archery. because she was trained in the way of the quincies from a very young, she is mostly in control of her abilities. having only recently acquired a silver tube, however, the techniques utilizing it are a bit weak at the moment.
HIRENKYAKU: analogous to the shinigami flash steps or the arrancar sonído, the quincy hirenkyaku allows the user to move quickly over short distances. to perform the technique, the user gathers spiritual particles under their feet and rides them to the desired location. like the air-walking skill displayed by most arrancar and shinigami, it can also be used to hover or fly for long distances. yumeko only recently mastered full use of this technique, and is still a beginner at it; thus, she can not use it as easily or to move as quickly as someone of higher mastery would be able to. as of now, using this drains her a lot, mostly because of her small body size and the power this technique requires, so she avoids using it often, saving it for only situations in which it is absolutely necessary. on her part, however, it requires much concentration and energy, so if she breaks her concentration or loses her balance or something similar, the technique will stop.
SILVER TUBE TECHNIQUES
*these techniques utilize yume's silver tube, and cannot be performed without it.
HEIZEN:this technique creates a transparent, rectangular beam of energy from silver tubes which slices through the opponent; it is activated by the command "feel the wrath of battle and accept this sacred chalice - sacred bite!" this was the first ginto technique that yumeko learned, and thus can be performed more accurately and effectively in comparison to her other abilities requiring the use of a silver tube.
GRITZ: this technique forms a man-sized pentacle symbol which envelops its target. it is activated by the command "a silver rod strikes the five-fingered stone bed - quintuple restraining frames!" because yumeko is still new to using this technique, it requires more energy than the other one and is not as strong as it could be.
*yumeko has not yet learned the following two abilities, but she may sometime in the course of the rp.
WOLKE: this technique uses a silver tube to create a large blast, but it may not be intended for use as such, since it has been known to be used to cushion large falls. it is activated by the command "tilt the goblet to the west - emerald grail!"
SPRENGER: this technique uses five seele schneiders to create a pentagram-shaped seal, which when activated causes a massive explosion within its borders. the seele schneiders function as accumulators, gathering the necessary amount of spirit particles to create the explosion. the liquid inside a silver tube acts as the trigger. the preparations for the technique combined with the charging time for the seele schneiders make its use in battle impractical unless she has a partner that can stall to buy time.
CROSS:
* yume's cross.
*yumeko's cross, small, silver, and delicate, is worn on a thin silver chain around her neck at all times; she doesn't even take it off to take a bath or when she sleeps. it is, by far, one of her most valued possessions. it once belonged to a distant relation of Uryu Ishida (to the husband of one of his great-grand-daughters), and was passed down the family line from person to person, hoping to spark enough reiatsu in any of them. a few quincies popped up here and there in the family, but none lasted long, and the cross went missing for six generations, until it came to land in the hands of yumeko's grandfather. he had grown up with stories of quincies and magical cross pendants that had been passed down in his family, and so when he came upon it, he continued the tradition. it went through each of yume's brothers before he gave it to yumeko herself, and then it became known that she was to carry this gift. since then, she has felt that it is both her responsibility and her burden to 'carry the cross,' if you wish to phrase it as such, and to uphold the honor of the quincies. but she is very proud to do so, and fervently hopes that she doesn't disappoint her grandfather.
the young girl's cross is the only way she is able to summon her quincy bow, and without it, she is unable to make use of her silver tube - without the small cross pendant, she would be rendered completely defenseless (in regards to spiritual beings; with humans, she always has her kendo skills).
BOW:
*yumeko's bow, as insubstantial as light, is formed by focusing her spiritual energy into her quincy cross. it is called raimu, which means coming dream. in all matters, this is a fitting name for yume's bow, as she more often than not tries to use it to make her dreams and visions for the world come true. has sleek features and resembles just what it is - a bow. it is, however, smaller than it would be for any other quincy, and the arrows are smaller and thinner, as well. but that just allows them to be shot faster, which would be taken as an advantage. the downsides are that, if she shoots too many arrows at a time, she can lose energy and become fatigued, and then have to rest before she continues. this energy drainage has the potential to be life threatening if it happens in excess, and thus she has to be super-accurate when shooting arrows, so not a single on misses.
since she'd been trained in archery as a child, most of her shots are precise. however, yume does tend to panic, and panicking would lower the accuracy of her shots.

PERSONALITY:
*ah, Yume-chan. Words can only paint half the picture of her personality; the rest will be left up to one's own interpretation through interaction with her. But, you must first be warned - this particular picture is not completely beautiful, nor always aesthetically pleasing. No, the brush strokes will be broad and thin, in clashing colors of the entire spectrum, and the end result will not entirely be what you may have expected. Because Yumeko Matsuoka is a girl of surprises, as you might soon learn. And whether you like it or not, she will be who she is. Just try to change it - I dare you.
Most people are able to read Yume like an open book, but Yume doesn't claim to know her true self. Instead, she settles for whatever conclusions others draw for her - all the rumors whispered in the corridors, the taunts thrown at her from across the Great Hall, the compliments scribbled by professors on her homework mixed in with cutting jokes meant to lighten the mood made at her own expense. It is from these encounters that Yumeko infers the substance to her character and self-worth.
She has a loud personality, but it's as if the volume is on mute. When she first meets someone, she is shy and quiet beyond belief, always nervous about the impression she is giving off. She will speak very little, making her responses seem like curt retorts. Around people she knows and is comfortable around, however, she can be very outgoing and cheerful. It all really depends on who she is around, where she is, and how many people are there. Although her personality can be very different based on who she's around, there are some attributes about her that never change. She always does her best, no matter what she's doing, and tries her absolute hardest. Whether it's an old friend or a complete stranger, she tries to please everyone. She tends to worry about everyone around her, and puts them before herself. She wants people to like her and worries about what everyone thinks of her, always striving to help other.
In her family, Yume has always been compared to her older brothers. Because of this - and the fact that she rarely lives up to her father's expectations of her - she has developed an inferiority complex of sorts. She was never good enough to please her father like her brothers did - always too shy, too small, too weak. Her dad has always expected too much of Yume, and because of this, she has become sensitive to criticism, no matter how constructively it is presented. She often tries to hide this, but the fact of the matter is that she takes criticism as a personal attack. Her inferiority complex leads her to avoid competitions - since she pretty much feels that she cannot win - , and to have a tendency of seclusiveness and timidity.
Her appearance gives off a frail, innocent, and clueless effect, which, in fact, is true. She knows very little about how hard the real world can be, and there are many things she does not understand. Most innuendos or other such comments go right over her head, others laughing while she remains confused. She's naive, which tends to annoy others at points, but mostly makes others want to protect her.
More often than not, Yume won't dare to call anyone out, not even in a private conversation. After all, accusing someone of lying invariably leads to conflict and she prefers to avoid conflict at any and all costs. Yes, there are instances in which it's unavoidable, but in the majority of her daily interactions, Yume will choose kneeling down and begging over standing tall and offering a challenge. The more fights you pick, the less friends you have and if there is one thing Yume desperately desires it's to be liked. This is one of her greatest strengths, as well as her greatest weakness.
And yet, Yume's greatest desire is to change the world. Yes, she's small and weak and could easily be broken - she acknowledges all of this, but still, she tries to make a difference. Years of watching action cartoons and playing with action figures as a child has given her ideals of a world of heroes and villains and good and evil, and has gifted her with a strong sense of justice and righteousness. It's because of this that she dreams of being a hero, of changing the world for the better and making a difference in someone's life.
Yume-chan's pride is another thing about her that many people don't realize. It's not pride in herself, necessarily, but rather in her family, and in her Quincy heritage. Under her lack of self-esteem and meek nature, many fail to notice that a spark of pride is well-hidden behind a desire to be liked and a desire to please others.
One thing about her that sets her apart from most people is her courage, commitment, and values. She is brave beyond anyone else her age or size. When she starts something, she sticks to it until the very end. She is firm about her beliefs, and it takes a lot to waver her opinion. When her mind is set to something, she will carry it out until the task has been fulfilled, and there is very little that can change that. Whether its her beliefs, values, or ideas, she'll stick with it. Consequences mean nothing to her as long as she's doing what she believes is right, what her heart tells her.
Openly warm, her mentality is somewhat abstract, as she has an affinity to be a dreamer at times. Her emotional state, as she 'wears her heart on her sleeve,' causes her to be somewhat reactive to things that hurt her, expressing her emotions easily and being hurt, becoming happy, etc., easily, but also easily getting over it and returning to her generally content state of mind. Despite her initial shy demeanor, she is lively and expedient if she believes it is right, and is, if possible, imaginative in a practical way. Despite this, Yume is easily made apprehensive, but her own actions and decisions cause her to be this way. She is impulsive and rarely thinks before acting, only following her gut reactions, the consequences of this causing her to be vulnerable and easily hurt, her emotions on display for the world to see. Trust comes easily to her - she earns it just as easily as she places it in others, for she believes that everyone is good, they just deserve a chance to prove themselves. This is also another reason why she tends to get hurt often - others take advantage of her trust and vulnerability, on top of the fact that most could easily overpower her physical being.
Despite constantly being taken advantage of, she is honest and keeps her integrity, never going back on her word. Courtesy is another trait she possesses - she is thoughtful of others and sensitive to their emotions and feelings, almost always able to sympathize with them. Despite this, she is quite dense to the emotions of others when aforementioned 'other' is flustered, nervous, or experiencing something she can't relate to.
She is generally responsible, always following through with her duties, and works well with others, given that said others are cooperative with her. She is loyal, showing her allegiance to people and things easily, devoted to her family, friends, and the other important people in her life. But then again, who wouldn't be loyal to their families? She is enthusiastic, as well, having a strong affinity towards people just as they are drawn to her kind, caring nature, and shows an eagerness and willingness to work with others. She is open-minded, receptive and interested genuinely in the opinions and ideas of others - she loves to hear what others say.
Self-control isn't one of the traits Yumeko possesses, in her actions and feelings, anyway. As mentioned previously, she is quite impulsive, and her emotions are displayed in all her impulsive actions - one would have to be extremely dense not to see what she was feeling. She is also not initiative - intentionally, anyway - most of the time, preferring to let others take the glory by starting movements and actions. Her impulsive actions, however, sometimes cause her to initiate things, although she never usually means to.
Compassion is another of her big traits - she has compassion beyond the amount of compassion any human being should have, and can often be seen crying with someone who is hurt, laughing with someone who is happy, comforting someone who is sad. She can't bear to hear a kitten mewling, or a child crying, or someone being yelled at, and often feels their emotions as her own and proceeds to comfort them. Because of this, she tends to cry often and easily, at every small hurt or unkindness, and she hates it - she hates how easily she cries and wishes her tears wouldn't betray her emotions so often. Little does she know that most would know her emotions even without her tears.
Her values set her apart from others - she tends to strive for the betterment of the world, nearly always. She works to help others, and is often involved in helping other people in a direct way, and has a lot of day-to-day contact with the other residents of Karakura. She works with others well, having close relationships with many and establishing friendships where none would spring otherwise. She isn't, by nature, a competitive person, and tends to avoid engaging in activities that pit her abilities against those of others when there are clear win-and-lose outcomes. She doesn't make decisions well, either, and is actually a very indecisive person, never able to decide on one course of action when she actually does stop to think about it.
She is friendly and caring, and, despite wanting others to like her, never bases herself on anyone else's opinions or changes herself because others don't like her. She loves to be her own person, and she is, by nature, a very strange person with odd habits. The first thing someone would notice about her is that she is extremely shy. Although she appears simple, she is much more complicated than many people get to know. When she gets to know someone, however, she is cheerful and friendly, to a reasonable extent. Yume knows when it is not the time to cheer, and as far as intelligence in school related areas goes - she is, although not the top in her classes, somewhat above average -, she is quite dense when it comes to anything else; she doesn't possess the best common sense in the world either. On a normal day, Yume is very clumsy, tending to run into things or tripping and falling. Occasionally, she sobers down a bit, particularly when she feels like a nuisance or that people are always protecting her, such as in the case of her family; she feels as if she was a burden to them and often finds herself thinking that they might be happier if she wasn't around.
Despite her conflicting personality, many parts of her being are consistently consistent. Her openness allows an appreciation for art, emotion, unusual ideas, imagination, and curiosity, while her conscientiousness allows her to aim for achievement in relation to her often spontaneous behavior - she is full of ideas, has a vivid imagination, spends time reflecting on things, and often comes up with abstract ideas. Her extroversion allows her to seek stimulation and the company of others - she pays attention to details, tries not to make messes of things, although it often results in quite the opposite, and avoids shirking her duties, she is comfortable around others, starts conversations, and has much to say once you get her talking. - and her agreeableness causes her to be compassionate and cooperative rather than suspicious and antagonistic towards others - she is interested in people, feels others' emotions as if they were her own, has a soft heart, makes others feel at ease, easily sympathizes with others, puts others before herself, and often feels overwhelming concern for the problems of others. Neuroticism may also be considered one of her personality traits, as she experiences unpleasant emotions easily, but is balanced out as she experiences contrastingly pleasant emotions just as easily.
Yume is also an accident child. She is prone to danger, and is very clumsy and quick to react. She is extremely accident prone, and ends up tripping on her own feet most of the time if there's nothing else to trip over. She is absentminded and a dreamer - an idealist in all forms - and has a short attention span. One thing she can always concentrate on, however, is cooking. She loves to cook and bake, and just to make food out of nothing, as if it appeared by magic. Conversely, she would rather make food from scratch then conjure it by magic. And she loves to fly, to have the feeling of being free. It's about the only thing she can do without falling.
Despite her own naivety and scatter-brained-ness, the small girl is very sensitive to the feelings of others. Often, she can associate with their feelings, and feels them as if she were in their place. She cries with others, smiles with them, laughs with them - it's just in her nature to feel for other people, and she often has no control over when a wave of someone else's emotions will wash over her and draw tears.
Essentially, anyone who has met her at least once knows her amiable, agreeable nature - but most of all, they know that the small girl wears her heart on her sleeve. It can be damaged, so to speak, during daily, everyday activities, and her emotions are expressed easily, despite how hard she tries to hide them. One can't help but see how she feels, and things generally get to her and affect her easily. Despite this, and despite that one might think that someone who expresses his or her emotions so easily wouldn't be able to let go of negative feelings and unhappiness, Yume would prove them all wrong - quite the opposite, she lets negative feelings go before they can burden her, or at least tries to. Sometimes, though, they do end up burdening her, and the poor girl is left wondering what she has done wrong. By displaying her emotions so easily, many people often take advantage of her many intricate and complex emotions that she displays so openly; in the end, as it almost always ends, she ends up getting hurt, and then forgiving and allowing a second chance.
If there's one thing she likes to do above others, it's singing. When singing, her voice is clear and soft, not the normal quiet stutter she normally speaks with. For her, it is far easier to express herself through singing than through speaking, through allowing her voice to reach high crescendos and drop to decrescendos. She developed a love of singing when she started writing musics - that is, songs. From a very young age, she started to write songs, and after that, singing them came naturally. Often, she'll accompany her singing by playing her guitar, which she also loves to do.
She has a good heart and a strong unyielding will. Her small size makes her very quick and agile. Sometimes, Yume's kindheartedness makes her too trusting of people, which could lead to her ultimate downfall. She isn't very strong, but knows how to take care of herself. Most of the time, she doesn't understand the situations she throws herself into without thinking, but she doesn't underestimate her opponents. She is openly afraid of many things, although she often tries to hide it.
Although many people may bully her and disregard her because of her scrawny build, she still manages to keep her innocence and amiability in tact, two of her more appealing qualities. This, however, makes her easy prey. She is often pushed around and roughened into situations she'd rather not be involved in, as well. On top of that, she is extraordinarily clumsy, usually tripping over her own feet; sadly, she has a habit of falling onto her face when she does. Gravitation seems to favor her face being attracted to the ground. She is very accident prone.
Despite that, Yume is a sweet and gentle soul, generally likable and friendly, with many qualms about saying 'no.' She isn't judgmental and tends to think the best of people, which can often land her in trouble. She has always been almost childish in her naivety, far too trusting. She is stubborn in her beliefs, too narrow-minded for her own good, which she gets from her mother. For the most part, however, Yume acts her age: young. She is quite innocent and can become nervous and embarrassed easily.
One of her most very admirable traits is that she is almost always honest and genuine. The only time she doesn't tell the truth, with very few exceptions, is when she wants to keep others from worrying about her. Her innocence and naivety makes it seem as if she wouldn't be able to keep secrets, but when entrusted with one, she does her absolute best to keep it from others.
One of Yume-chan's best attributes is her compassionate, loving, affectionate, understanding and accepting nature. She is compassionate and thinks of others always before herself, never swaying or hesitating when it comes to supporting and remaining loyal to the ones she loves. She tries her hardest always to see how her own actions will affect others so she doesn't hurt anyone, and the accepting and considerate part of Yume makes her able to relate to others easily. She might be somewhat shy, but this girl will never hesitate to try and comfort even a stranger if she sees them upset.
Nonetheless, she is a very emotional person, unable to disguise her often passionate feelings. She often acts impulsively, though this seems to hurt her more often than not, and consequences don't matter to her if she is doing what she believes in. She is extremely loyal and dedicated to all her friends and family. Her loyalties are deep, and cannot be explained by word but, rather, are controlled by an almost instinctual part of her subconscious. When she is roused, rational thinking goes out the door.
Another of her weak points is when she is put in a situation in which she needs to work under pressure; usually, situations like these will end up in disaster - she can only produce quality results in anything she does when she does it on her own time, at her own pace, in a comfortable environment. She tends to fear and cower before authority figures, including but not limited to the police, teachers, etc., and cannot control what others do at all, intentionally. She is in no way in a position to influence others intentionally, and most times does it unintentionally, just through her kind words and impulsive actions.
For someone normally so easygoing, her ferocity in battle is unusual. When enraged, she is truly an imposing figure; although, when she does get angry, she is usually not taken seriously because she happens to cry when angry. She was never the type to sit back and watch idly; her impulses guide her into action, no matter how reckless or foolish. This contrast with her polite, happy side is almost bizarre. She is always willing to fight for the sake of others, even those she doesn't know, so long as she believes in their cause. She is also incredibly motivated, willing to work unceasingly for a personal cause.
When enraged or deeply believing in something, she acts of her own accord. She will not hesitate to break or bend rules if she supports the cause; this, however, often lands her in trouble. Despite this, she does not enjoy being the life of the party and the center of attention, but she tends to stand back in the shadows. Her frequent escapades and passionate beliefs often land her in trouble.
Although the young girl isn't overly bold or forward, she's quite a bit curious. She asks questions very often, for there is so very much that she wonders about; sometimes, she may even ask a stranger a question if it is bothering her enough. She constantly wonders, and worries, about many things, and enjoys musing on various different topics.
Despite the complicated tangled mass of a personality she possessed, she is quite easy to read, especially by those who know her. Just like everyone else, she smiles when she's happy, cries when she's sad. Anger usually brings tears to her eyes, and over-whelming joy causes her to laugh cheerfully. Really, she's just like everyone else - nothing special, just plain old Yumeko.
As the youngest child in her family, Yume is frequently being spoiled by her brothers, who feel the need to protect her and nurture her every whim. Rather than spoiling her, however, this has only made Yume more conscience of how much she owes them, and how she will probably always be living in their shadows.
Yume is also very forgiving. Usually she passes off negative comments with a shaky giggle as she always tries to be friendly, unless the comment personally hurt her; then she will impose her wrath upon the inflicter.
Yume is easily 'made to do' a lot of things - that is, she experiences emotions easily. She is easily made nervous [which in turn gets her easily confused], easily startled / frightened / scared, easily convinced of lies, easily depressed, easily saddened, easily worried, and constantly second-guesses herself. To start [and the girl doesn't quite know why], whenever she gets nervous it's impossible for her to pay attention to what's going on, let alone listen to anyone. This often gets her into trouble and she can't stand it, so she avoids high-stress situations at all costs. Only if she's made to will she do anything really daring, though she's open to doing most other things.
In correspondence with the previously mentioned trait of the young girl, her fear quite easily controls her. It controls her, far more than fear should ever control any one person. When she's really truly scared, she can't move. It chokes her, even, and she has to fight it just to breath, almost like she's having an asthma attack of sorts. She can't move, can't scream, and can't defend herself - worst case scenario. Yume does her best to hide her fears from others. However, this is difficult, as she is scared by the simplest things, and unable to stand up for herself.
As mentioned before, Yume is ridiculously clumsy. She'd trip over a blade of grass if it hit her toe the wrong way. The same goes for air. Atop being clumsy, she is forgetful. Remembering what she had for breakfast is hard enough, and though important memories will stay with her forever she finds it hard to recall more recent things. Also stated before, the girl is a ridiculous perfectionist. She doesn't mind the flaws of others, but cannot stand to see them in herself. She will go to any length to 'fix' them, always assuming that, in one form or another, she's got something wrong with her, and she feels as if she needs to fix them to please others.
She is compassionate, imaginative, reflective, and an idealist; also, she is expressive, in her own quiet, unobtrusive way, and lives up to her beliefs and values, while developing an emotional understanding of the world around her. As an idealist, she dreams of making the world a better place, of living in harmony and peace, and she longs to change the world for the better. Often, she can find meaning in her surroundings that have things about them otherwise unseen by anyone. She sees life as a wonderful mystery, her quest being to figure it out.
Criticism is often taken personally by her, and can usually hurt her easily-hurt feelings, even if it was intended to be constructive. She can adapt easily to changing circumstances, usually, and is prone to believe that people have changed just by their word, always allowing a second chance. She loves to acquire knowledge and finds something of interest in most subjects.
As for friendships, she prefers to have a few close and deep ones, as she feels most alone in large crowds. Due to this, and her claustrophobia, she often escapes away from large crowds.
She is, undeniably, quite 'normal' in many aspects, but there are certain things that set her apart from others, that make her different. She doesn't care about things other girls care about - being popular, make-up, clothes, boys - but rather, just cares about being herself. If there is someone she can't be herself to, she will, unless it somehow hurts their feelings, try to avoid being with that person, and will try to avoid confrontations even more. It's not that she doesn't like that person, it's just that, if she can't be herself with him or her, then he or she is probably of high-standing and can determine her future in the blink of an eye, so to speak. In truth, she'll try to please whomever it is that she can't be herself around, but still won't change herself.
In regards to optimism, one might think that Yume's glass is always half-full. Most of the time, she acts as if it is, but in reality, she just sees the contents of 'the glass' as, well, the contents of the glass. There's something in it, right? It may not have as much as one might want, but at least there was something, even if it left room for more want, more need. To her, as long as there's something in the glass, so to speak, even if it's just a drop, she's happy. That may seem as if her glass is always half full, but at times, it may seem half empty - despite the fact that it's already been explained that it only matters if there's at least something in the glass. Although, it's never 'half-empty' for her. Just for others, when she sees someone sad, or crying, or in pain. Then, she wishes that she could give their 'glass' some of the contents of hers, so to speak, to make them happy. If they try to push her away, however, when she tries to offer some of her happiness to fill up their glass, then she may get hurt, and easily, too, and avoid that person for a short amount of time, until she realizes that their need is more dire than hers.
She doesn't hold grudges - it's just impossible for her. She may get really upset at some point about something someone did or said, but after an hour, at most, of thinking about it, she'll just go and apologize, even if it wasn't her fault.
Most find her easy to become friends with and talk to, as she understands most emotions and will try to help others be happy as much as she can. Because of this, however, some people try to fool her, and it usually works, and help them do wrong or other such things. Whenever she realizes this, she is usually very hurt, but will still trust them, offering them the second chance they were never given before. Many find that she's like the adorable little sister they can talk to about anything, and the innocence she radiates in her warm smile and large brown eyes makes them feel the need to protect her, and makes them feel as if they're drawn to her.
Most can tell upon first meeting her that she possesses a gentle, patient, malleable nature and has many generous qualities that allow her to be friendly, good natured, kind and compassionate. She is sensitive to those around her, and can often pick up on how others feel immediately. In such cases, she will respond with the utmost sympathy and tact to any suffering she encounters. Many people tend to be drawn to her due to her easy going, affectionate, submissive nature, and she generally offers no threat or challenge to stronger and more exuberant characters. She can easily accept those around her and when thrown in a situation she doesn't agree with, if trying to extricate herself has failed, she will simply adapt, accepting what has happened.
Even so, her nature tends to be too otherworldly for the practical purposes of living in this world as it is. She usually exists and acts emotionally rather than rationally, instinctively more than intellectually, impulsively rather than thinking things through. She dislikes confinement, but is generally submissive; any rebellion that she does make, however, is personal, for the betterment of the general public.
Despite this, she tends to withdraw into a dream world where her qualities can bring satisfaction. She is versatile and intuitive, has a quick understanding for most things, and observes and listens well. She is also receptive to new ideas and atmospheres; all these factors combine and produce a remarkable creativity in her music, which is evident every time she sings or plays guitar.
As most can figure out upon meeting her, Yume is usually never egotistical in her personal relationships and gives more than she asks for from friendships. She is delicate and innocent in these matters, and is easily hurt when betrayed, although she can also just as easily forgive. Even if she is betrayed countless times, she is intensely loyal and will remain faithful most times.
She's gullible, easily tricked, duped, and fooled. Yume is agreeable and open to experience, and always tries to find the good side of everyone.
Despite her constant attempts to keep an open mind and reluctance to take a stand and fight, Yume has a surprising stubborn streak for such a small timid girl. Once her mind fixates on an idea it doesn't shake loose easily. Her non-existent self-esteem serves as the perfect example. No matter the compliments or praise she receives, no matter the dormant talent she discovers and awakens, no matter the people who try day after day to reach her, the idea that Yume will one day consider herself more than just a little stupid worthless girl is laughable.
But, for all her failings, Yume-chan's saving grace is that she's not just a stupid, worthless girl.
Rather, at the end of the day, she's still one of the good guys.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE:
*from HAPPILY EVERY AFTER.
RENESMEE HATED THE rain – hated it with a burning passion. It was probably the only thing she hated so much, those damn drops of precipitation that never seemed to stop falling from the sky in the rainy town of Forks. Every day that it rained, she would sit inside and stare outside, yearning to be out there among the thick green foliage – the dry thick green foliage – with the sun shining above her head. She was surprised that the residents of Forks hadn’t started killing themselves because of all the rain. If it had continued any longer, she probably would have. |
